On August 19th, 2022, Tell Every Amazing Lady® was lucky enough to welcome enthusiastic volunteers from TD Bank and PVH Corp to the T.E.A.L.® Community Center in Brooklyn to stuff Luxury Fundraising Bags and make signs for the T.E.A.L.® Celebration and Women’s Health Expo.
Class 1-208 of P.S. 154 in Brooklyn produced gorgeous and colorful art for the T.E.A.L.® Community Center windows this spring! Class teacher Stefanie Concannon and art teacher Kelly Normand led the project.
Kelly Normand describes the students’ projects: “Students looked at the art of Piet Mondrian. They created these paintings using straight lines like Mondrian. The palette incorporated turquoise to support and acknowledge the work of the Tell Every Amazing Lady® foundation.”
One of our amazing volunteers, Michelle, created the display in the windows so that passersby could relish some color as they walk by our center!

“I became involved with T.E.A.L.® because my sister who is two years older than me worked at T.E.A.L.®. I saw what she was doing and it was a good community service idea for me.”
She started helping in the T.E.A.L.® Community Center in Brooklyn in September. She organized the office, helped prepare the T.E.A.L.® newsletter for mailing, and assisted with packing T.E.A.L.® Kits for survivors.
To Maureen, when volunteering with Tell Every Amazing Lady®, she knows she’s making a difference.
“The thing about T.E.A.L.® is I know how personal it is. I know that I don’t normally see the survivor, but I know that what I’m doing is impacting them.”
For anyone thinking about volunteering, Maureen says go for it.
“If you have the time to do it and you’re passionate about it, you should definitely volunteer.”

The students volunteered at the 11th Annual Brooklyn T.E.A.L.® Walk/Run by ensuring that the trail was safe for participants.
Later, they volunteered in the T.E.A.L.® Community Center in Brooklyn, where they worked on a variety of projects. Notably, they created and led a workshop to educate the community on hereditary cancer and how genetic testing may help those with a family history of this ovarian cancer.
Several months later, when the COVID-19 crisis brought uncertainty and restricted work ability, the LIU students reconnected with T.E.A.L.®, supporting the ovarian cancer community digitally. They took on a range of jobs from their homes, from identifying resources to keep ovarian cancer survivors healthy to finding funding opportunities for the organization during these difficult times.
The LIU students recognize the communal power of their volunteer work.
Elizabeth, a student in the program, feels that “volunteering with T.E.A.L.® was an eye-opening experience that showed me how a group of people who have been affected by a disease can come together and have the power to change lives and help others in need.”
The students encourage anyone considering volunteering with T.E.A.L.® to do so. Volunteering not only helps those affected by ovarian cancer, but also provides a valuable lesson in giving back and the strength of a community, they said.

Staff and volunteers with Tell Every Amazing Lady®, an ovarian cancer nonprofit, raised awareness about the deadly disease at Maimonides Park in Coney Island during a Brooklyn Cyclones game on September 3rd, 2021.
T.E.A.L.® staff were joined by volunteers personally affected by ovarian cancer, including Rafael Espinal, president of Freelancers Union and former NYC Council Member, who lost his mother to ovarian cancer, at a pre-game press conference and on the field before the kick off of the game. Espinal also threw out the first pitch. During the game, a PSA about ovarian cancer and the work T.E.A.L.® does played on screen for fans to see.
At sunset, T.E.A.L.® members and volunteers stood in front of the famed Parachute Jump at Luna Park as it was lit teal, the official color symbolizing ovarian cancer. The Parachute Jump was also illuminated on August 28th, 2021, and September 4th, 2021.
Former Volunteer of the Month and friend of Tell Every Amazing Lady® Anthony traveled by rail across the United States throughout August and September 2021. During his travels, Anthony spread awareness about T.E.A.L.® by sporting our branded baseball cap and polo shirt. At times, Anthony was able to speak about the foundation to those he met on the trip.
Starting in New York, Anthony and his nephew traveled south and to the west via train. The two of them stopped in many locations along the way, with particular focus on areas of historical and railfan significance. Notable highlights include Ft. Pulaski in Savannah, Georgia, the National Transportation Museum in St. Louis, Missouri, the National WWI Museum and Memorial in Kansas City, Missouri, and Buffalo Bill Cody’s Ranch in North Platte, Nebraska. Though the trip was amazing, Anthony can’t wait to get back on the rails and is already plotting his next adventure!
