I am running for Team Tell Every Amazing Lady® in honor of my incredible mother, Vicki, who passed away from Ovarian Cancer in 2014. My mom introduced my family to Tell Every Amazing Lady® before she passed away, and we have been proudly participating in their annual fundraising event in Brooklyn for over 13 years. My mom was the most fearless, brilliant, strong, vibrant, courageous, benevolent, and empowering person I have ever known and she lived every single day to the fullest.
I am running the marathon not only to raise awareness about this disease- one that is often overlooked and undetected until it is too late- but also for my mother, whose life was tragically cut short because of it. I want people to be knowledgeable about Ovarian Cancer, so that they know the warning signs and their options, and therefore, can act from a place of strength, rather than fear. My mom believed that in life, we have two choices: we can live or we can let life happen to us. I believe we all deserve to truly live.
Running has always been a transformative experience for me; it clears my mind, silences the noise, and transports me to a space of pure existence. Being able to run is a gift, something that not everyone has the ability to do, and I never take that for granted. When I run, I feel like I am alive and I can feel my mom right there with me. I am running this marathon for her and all the people who can’t.
If I could change one thing about Ovarian Cancer, it would be for there to be a cure. To all of the amazing ladies in the world, my advice for you is to choose life. Live every day like it is your favorite day, like it is your best day- never forgetting to smell the roses and always dancing in the rain. We only get one life and you deserve an extraordinary one!
