T.E.A.L. Walk 2011 Recap

On Saturday, September 10, 2011, the 3rd Annual T.E.A.L. Walk launched without a hitch as just over 1500 T.E.A.L. Walkers came out for the cause.  This year’s T.E.A.L. Walk, dedicated to the memory of co-founder and namesake Louisa McGregor was the most successful yet.  Again hosted by The Greek Goddess Of Comedy Ellen Karis, this year’s TEAL Walk included entertainment and emotion.

Among the special guests were Miss Richmond County Amanda Lee Alicea singing our national anthem.  Her platform is Strength in Knowledge: Women fighting Cancer together.  Her mother Ivette Alicia was one of the survivors who attended.  Also, American Idol’s Brielle Von Hugel sang live, the Medgar Evers Prep Marching Band gave an inspiring performance and for the 3rd consecutive year, Brooklyn Borough President and T.E.A.L. supporter Marty Markowitz helped kick off the festivities. Guest speakers included actress/model/activist/ovarian cancer survivor Bald Is Beautiful Sharon Blynn, gynecological surgeon and T.E.A.L. Advisory Board member Dr. Elizabeth Poynor of NY’s Lenox Hill Hospital, Sol Schreiber, founder of OCRF and Dr Sharyn Lewin, gynecological surgical oncologist of NY Presbyterian/Columbia University Medical Center.

Louisa’s husband John gave a moving speech, evoking the memory of his late wife and imploring women to get tested and be vigilant about their health.
