More than 100 members of the volunteer group District 20 K-1 Lions and Leos, including parts of Brooklyn and Queens, assembled at Gershwin/Linden Park on September 10, 2022 to participate in the virtual walk aspect of the T.E.A.L.® Celebration and Women’s Health Expo. This gathering was organized by the district to raise awareness of the deadly disease of ovarian cancer and to help raise funding for medical research.
Members of the Stuy Park Lions had a more personal connection to the cause, as they honored the memory of Lion Myra Crumpe, who had just recently lost her battle against ovarian cancer. The groups, along with Myra’s husband, wore customized T-shirts and released teal balloons dedicated to Myra’s memory.
The group’s walk was featured in The Canarsie Courier on October 3, 2022. The coverage of this event allowed for the publicization of the Lions and Leo’s efforts in raising awareness of ovarian cancer. You can read it here.
