“The first annual T.E.A.L. walk will be held on Saturday, September 12, 2009 in Brooklyn’s Prospect Park during National Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month.

The proceeds from this year’s event will benefit The Ovarian Cancer Research Fund; the leading independent agency dedicated to advancing ovarian cancer research in the United States. Since 1998, OCRF has awarded over $28 million in grants to 128 of the brightest women and men in the field today at over 40 leading medical centers across the country.

T.E.A.L. Walk is a non-competitive 5K event. Participants include survivors, caregivers, families, and friends coming together to raise awareness of, and promote a cure for ovarian cancer.”

TEAL Featured on Good Day New York

MYFOXNY.COM – One woman who is battling cancer right now has a big event this weekend. She hopes that one day women won’t have to go through what she did. Louisa McGregor and her sister Pamela Esposito founded the T.E.A.L. Walk, the first walk for ovarian cancer. According to the American Cancer Society, this year about 25,000 women will be diagnosed with ovarian cancer and about 14,500 will die. Ovarian cancer accounts for about 3 percent of all cancers in women. A woman’s risk of getting invasive ovarian cancer during her lifetime is about 1 in 71. Her lifetime chance of dying from invasive ovarian cancer is about 1 in 95. This cancer mainly develops in older women. Around half of women who are diagnosed with ovarian cancer are 60 or older. It is more common in caucasian women than African-American women.
